Interview with Olivier de Lagausie, Chief executive of SIEL

Light wood packaging represents 6000 employees and 250 millions euros of turnover in 2010. Promoting the sector in France and Europe, the National Union of the light wood packaging industry tells us about the latest news of the sector through its Chief Executive, Olivier de Lagausie.

What have been the highlights of the wood sector over the past few months?

Firstly, we have seen growth in markets which are mainly niche markets, but which have a lot of growth potential.

In the drinks and small packaging sector with the planned phasing out of single-unit packs, which in due course will no longer be allowed.

In this area, wood has a lot to offer. The next edition of ALL4PACK, which we will be attending, will be an opportunity to prove it.

What are the assets of wood that you are going to highlight?

On conventional markets, we can see that in recent years, the wood sector has earned a following among users. At SIEL (light weight wood packaging trade association) our mission is to study and defend the interests of light weight wood packaging industries and promote the profession both nationwide and across Europe. We therefore have a duty to work alongside manufacturers and our members to support this development.

From a consumer point of view, “wood” is a good seller thanks to its natural likability. Its anti-microbial properties are of particular interest to the food industry.

And also from a wider perspective thanks to its environmental assets, with low environmental impact on non-renewable resources and energy.

We will be at the heart of the exhibition’s approach by offering visitors sustainable packaging and logistics solutions.
