3 questions to Norcan

Interview with Stéphane FAUTH, Director of Norcan, and SHERPA, collaborative robot at Norcan

Which is the major subject you are currently focusing on?

NORCAN, a designer of bespoke industrial equipment with over 30 years of experience, has developed SHERPA®: a range of mobile, collaborative, intuitive and versatile robots. These AMRs are a solution particularly adapted to evolving and dynamic environments such as factories, logistics depots or e-Commerce order picking areas.

Already on the market, for the transport of trays (B-Series), the range is currently being expanded. SHERPA® will extend its functions to transport pallets (up to 1000 kg) and will be able to tow carts or lift shelves. It will therefore become a sustainable part of the "factories of the future 4.0" approach.

Since the whole world is now interested in robotics, NORCAN has set itself the goal of being the French leader in autonomous mobile robots. On 1st January 2020, we will launch SHERPA MOBILE ROBOTICS, a NORCAN subsidiary dedicated to our range of robots. This opportunity will enable us to move faster in a booming market where new entrants are arriving every day.

What is your strategy to answer the increasing demand from both the industries and the consumers, in terms of sustainable development / eco-design ?

Beyond our involvement in reducing our impact on the environment, Norcan offers a genuine societal approach with this solution.

SHERPA® has been designed to reduce the effort involved in transporting loads and preparing orders, and to improve productivity and performance in production and logistics. The robot carries the loads instead of the operators and transfers the items in their place, saving them from having to walk miles on foot, pulling or pushing carts. This leaves the pickers' hands free to concentrate on value-added tasks.

SHERPA® also ensures smoother flows, greater flexibility and more space.

Why did you choose to take part in ALL4PACK 2020 ? / Which kind of decision makers do you meet there ?

The application areas for our solution are limitless: in industry for parts transfer, kitting and edge feeding, in logistics and distribution for material handling tasks and in e-commerce for order picking in the broadest sense. The companies who are present at ALL4PACK are our historical customers and this is why we must be there, in order to support them in their 4.0 approaches and projects.
