INVESTMENT OUTLOOK FOR 2018-2020, THE OPINION OF THE PACK EXPERTS COMMITTEE

The price of materials/packaging in the case of a product launch

  • Achieving lowest possible material cost is an objective for all product launches
  • Price is less of an obstacle if the packaging solution is truly disruptive

Supplier selection area

  • Suppliers with whom the solution was developed
  • Or suppliers who strictly comply with specifications
  • For corrugated cardboard: the closest suppliers

“Made in France” packaging

  • First advantage: geographical proximity
  • Second advantage: specific know-how
  • But also for traceability and usable as an asset in terms of communication

Recyclability and use of recycled materials: the opinion of the Pack Experts Committee

WE SHOULD BE RECYCLING MORE AND BETTER

How ?

  • By developing “design for recycling”
  • By reinforcing R&D in recycling processes
  • By developing “sustainable marketing”
  • By the government offering a financial eco-bonus to manufacturers (instead of taxing them) in return for incorporating recycled materials

Why ?

  • To give credit to consumers for sorting their waste and improve their education
  • To be able to incorporate more recycled materials
  • To implement CSR and the circular economy

Steps ahead

  • If international regulations are not aligned, spread best practices within international groups
  • Embrace innovation in the recycling domain
  • Create food-quality recycled materials
  • Create recyclable, effective and sterilisable soft materials

E-COMMERCE: the opinion of the Pack Experts Committee

When a product is launched in an omnichannel strategy, depending on the market share and the need to create a specific customer experience, primary packaging may be modified for online retail.

SHIPPING PACKAGING FOR ONLINE RETAIL HAS A HIGH CARBON FOOTPRINT AND ECONOMIC COST. IT MUST NONETHLESS ALSO:

  • Be shock-resistant to prevent product breakage in the event of being dropped;
  • Make for easier warehouse organisation;
  • Be as small as possible.

Some logistics providers adapt their delivery vehicles for “gentler” logistics. Printing a personal message for the recipient inside the packaging constitutes one way of improving the customer experience. This packaging can also be optimised by synchronising and grouping together different orders made on the same day by the same customer.

INDUSTRY 4.0: the opinion of the Pack Experts Committee

Whatever the technology used, it should be deployed for the benefit of the product and the consumer. Industry 4.0 must provide added value both to major groups working in product packing, and to SMEs.
